GYROTONIC®
GYROTONIC
I teach Gyrotonic sessions in person in Seattle, WA, and can incorporate Somatic Experiencing into this work, or bring Gyrotonic into the therapy process as a resource.
I teach GYROKINESIS® classes over telehealth and can incorporate this practice into therapy session with clients, if desired.
Gyrotonic sessions use the machine depicted on this page to support a person’s body while they explore movement. Gyrokinesis classes are built around the same concepts, but can be done with household objects like a chair and a mat on the floor, and does not require specialized equipment.
GYROTONIC & THERAPY
The Gyrotonic Method improves strength, integration and range of motion. It activates the sympathetic nervous system, unsticks patterns in the fascial body for freer access to movement, and generally cultivates embodiment and positive internal sensations (i.e. it makes you feel great!).
My therapeutic background allows me to hold space for the psychological aspect of working to create change through physical training. Learning new movement pathways can often bring emotions and unfamiliar sensations to the surface. I bring tools from my somatic and therapeutic background to hold space for these experiences, which can at times include some disorientation. I work with you as a team for your system, to help you move from unfamiliarity towards healing, growth and a greater sense of agency.
As a somatic therapist, my study of the Gyrotonic Method informs the way I draw connections between an internal experience of psychological agency and a felt sense of freedom in the physical body. If a person feels restricted inside their body, they often feel psychologically restricted as well, and vice-versa. I attend to the physical and the psychological in concert with my clients, looking at them as one system that can learn movement instead of stuckness.
